The Kia Rio is the third generation of a hatchback based on the same platform as the Hyundai Accent. The world premiere of the car took place on March 1, 2011 at the Geneva Motor Show.

Working on the appearance of the third generation of Rio, an international group of designers from Atelier Kia in Frankfurt have made an emphasis on giving the car more sporty. Thus, a narrowed radiator grill integrated with headlights, stamps on side panels and similarity of a stern part with compact crossover Sportage have appeared.

Dimensions of Rio have also changed. The hatchback became 20 mm longer than its predecessor (4045 mm), 25 mm wider (1720) and 15 mm lower (1455). The wheelbase, in this case, increased by 70 mm (up to 2570 mm), due to which the legs of the driver and front passenger received 45 mm of extra space, and the volume of luggage compartment grew to 292 liters.
