2011 Volkswagen Beetle Owner's Manual

Driving safety is not just about keeping the driver and passengers safe. Just as important is the ability to get out of critical situations with confidence and without complications. The New Beetle is equipped as standard with the Electronic Skid Control (ESP). All the information about the driving conditions, including the accelerator pedal position, is sent continuously to the system’s microprocessor. In an extreme situation, it immediately intervenes on the brakes and/or engine to ensure that directional stability is maintained. Electronic ABS with brake force distributor and differential lock is also standard. The optimum distribution of braking forces between all four wheels reduces braking distances, for example, when the vehicle is fully loaded. When moving off on roads with intermittent slippery surfaces, the electronic differential lock prevents slipping of one of the wheels, improving traction capabilities of the vehicle. Thanks to the set of these technical features, the New Beetle can be classified as one of the safest cars in its class.
