2014 Kia Sportage Owner's Manual

Do not look for serious differences in the appearance of the restyled and updated Sportage. They are minimum. Generally speaking, designers of Korean company tweaked radiator grille, head optics and fog lights. Plus, the rear lights received LED sections. As for the interior, the only innovations are a new dashboard and improved multimedia system with a large touch screen.

The Sportage is built on the same platform as the Hyundai ix35. The front McPherson strut springs are tilted to reduce vertical cornering loads. The springs and shock absorbers of the rear multilever are mounted separately for layout reasons. Kia’s AWD Dynamax AWD system was developed by Magna Steyr, whose engineers tried to make the transmission as resistant to overheating as possible during prolonged clutch slippage. The larger crankcase accommodates more oil, and the connection algorithm is optimized to avoid the clutch operating with preload when it’s not needed.
