As for power units, the Optima is able to satisfy practically any whim. Yes, the old-good 2-liter atmospheric engine with 163 hp and 196 Nm is still in operation, as well as the top turbo 2.0 T-GDI, though the power has slightly dropped 238 hp versus 245, though the torque has slightly increased – 353 Nm versus 350 Nm. Also the line-up has been replenished with a 1,6-liter turbo engine familiar from the American versions with 180 hp and 265 Nm of power. But the most interesting is a new 1.6-liter diesel engine of U3 series, though, unlike its predecessor 1.7 (U2), power of the motor was reduced from 141 hp and 340 Nm to 136 hp and 320 Nm of torque. Due to such sacrifice the diesel engine managed to squeeze in strict ecological limits. You can choose from three gearboxes: 6-speed manual, classic automatic with the same number of speeds and proprietary DCT “robot” with two clutches.
