2017 Kia Optima PHEV Owner's Manual

The Kia Optima Sportswagon Plug-in Hybrid is a Class D station wagon with a plug-in hybrid unit based on the fourth-generation sedan. The car was first presented to the general public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2017.

The Optima SW Plug-in Hybrid has an identical design to its three-body counterpart, apart from the stern of course. In general, it repeats the features of the classic gasoline Sportswagon, only minor differences are the nameplate on the trunk lid indicating the environmental friendliness of the car and the lack of an exhaust system spigot at the bottom of the bumper. However, useful volume of the luggage compartment, due to location of storage batteries, is 440 liters, which is 113 liters less than the standard station wagon and 133 liters more than the hybrid sedan.

Inside the KIA Optima SW Plug-in Hybrid is no different from the hybrid sedan. The spacious interior features quality finishing materials, comfortable seats, thoughtful ergonomics and a decent level of equipment. The latter includes wireless charging for smartphones, a large set of active safety systems, as well as a powerful infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen that supports mobile devices based on known platforms, navigation and a package of online services KIA Connected Services. It also offers the ability to locate the nearest charging point, remotely check battery levels and schedule recharges and journeys.

The powertrain for the Kia Optima Plug-in Hybrid wagon includes a 2-liter GDI gasoline engine working with a 50-kilowatt electric motor integrated into the drivetrain. The latter is powered by an 11.26-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery. The total output of this tandem is 205 horsepower and 375 Nm of tractive force. The car is able to overcome more than 60 kilometers on pure electric power. In addition to the standard ways of recharging from the engine and the regenerative system, it can be recharged from the standard power grid. For this purpose, there is a special socket, hidden under a separate hatch on the front left wing.
