2017 Mini Clubman Owner's Manual

A few more words about the gasoline engine. It is the unit B48 of a new generation from BMW. Its distinctive features – an aluminum cylinder block, direct fuel injection, dual-flow turbocharger Twin Scroll, phase shifters on both camshafts, as well as the Valvetronic throttle-free mixing system and a pair of balancer shafts.

The Cooper S and Cooper SD versions can be not only front-wheel drive, but also all-wheel drive. Such cars received prefix All4 to the name. An electrohydraulic multi-disc clutch in rear wheels’ drive, located at the same time with the rear reduction gear is responsible for everything. Moreover, the distribution of traction on axles is coordinated with the stabilization system. In addition, the basic equipment of the all-wheel drive wagon includes a traction control system, as well as electronic imitation of differential locking. Adaptive dampers and sport suspension are available as options.

Interestingly, despite the higher weight of the all-wheel-drive Clabman, it is still quite economical. The petrol engine consumes on average 6.3-8 liters per 100 km, and the diesel one needs 4.8-4.9 liters. Thus, the first engine accelerates from a place up to 100 km/hour for 6.9 seconds, the second – for 7.2 seconds.
