2019 Dodge Durango Owner's Manual

The first-generation Durango full-size SUV, based on the Dacota, premiered in 1997. The large 5-8-seat vehicle features a leaf-sprung rear axle and independent front suspension.
The base version of the first years Durango was equipped with a 3.9-liter V-shaped six-cylinder engine. In addition, it was offered with two V8 engines with a working volume of 5.2 and 5.9 liters with an output up to 249 hp.
After 2001, the age began to show, and the model could not fully compete with numerous American counterparts brands Ford and Chevrolet, so the leadership of the North American branch of DaimlerChrysler decided to develop a new platform for production of the Durango second generation. The fruit of their efforts was first unveiled at NAIAS in Detroit in January 2003 as a pre-production prototype Durango HEMI RT Concept, and it was announced that virtually the same vehicle would go into production in fall 2003 as a 2004 model year.
