Like its sibling, the Golf R Variant is built on the MQB (Modularen Querbaukasten) modular platform. As standard the car is equipped with the branded 4Motion four-wheel drive system. The front suspension is represented by MacPherson struts, in the rear there is an independent multilever system. For transition to boundary control modes of the car there is a possibility to switch off stabilization system.

The hood of the charged station wagon is occupied by a turbocharged 2 liter engine developing 310 hp of power and 400 Nm of tractive effort. It works together with the branded 7DSG robot.

The package of additional equipment of the updated Golf now includes a system of gesture recognition and Wi-Fi.
