For those customers who prioritize fuel consumption, the Sharan is available with super economical turbocharged diesel engines. The 66 kW (90 hp) turbocharged diesel engine consumes on average just 6.3 l/100 km. Here, charge air cooling and variable turbine geometry in the supercharger contribute to higher power output at low engine speeds. The 85 kW (115 hp) turbodiesel power unit with fuel injected via pump injectors is also capable of accelerating the vehicle quickly at low engine speeds and developing high power and torque, but with the latest advances in injection technology. The fuel is injected into the cylinder at a pressure of up to 2050 bar directly into the combustion chamber. As a result, the combustion of the air-fuel mixture is more efficient. Fuel consumption decreases and power increases. As a result, the diesel engine becomes comparable with a conventional gasoline engine.
