The need to unify with the future pickup truck significantly limited the scope of the engineers, abandoning the progressive for this class body and fully independent suspension in favor of time-tested frame construction and a dependent rear suspension.

The main changes are the new independent torsion-spring front suspension of multilever type and redesigned rear suspension with a stabilizer bar, in the design of which instead of springs used coil springs.

The Durango is powered by a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 with class-leading horsepower ratings of 335 hp and 370 rpm of torque. The Multi Displacement System allows half of the cylinders to be deactivated when the car is driven at constant speed or under slight acceleration, ensuring the engine’s fuel efficiency. The power unit is paired to a new 5-speed automatic transmission.
