2019 Mazda 3 Owner's Manual
Under the hood of the Mazda 3 sedan, as before, there will be Skyactiv-G family of gasoline atmospheric engines and Skyactiv-D diesel. However, the most expected element of the new 3 is Skyactiv-X engine. It is a petrol 2-liter engine with a record compression ratio 15:1, the driven supercharger and super-high fuel pressure of even 1000 bar. But most importantly, it uses Spark Plug Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) technology for the first time. According to the manufacturer, such power plant should please with interesting efficiency and low consumption. However, capacity of such highly effective “engine” is modest 181 horses and 222 Nm of torque. As before, you can choose either a six-graded mechanics or the classical “automatic machine” with the same quantity of gears.
However, not the engine alone has surprised Mazda. The decision to change multilever rear suspension for a simple torsion bar became interesting. But it is not necessary to curse the Japanese before time as they promise excellent smoothness of run of the sedan, and in terms of reliability such design will be more likely a plus than a minus.
